Ghana must go - a novel by Taiye Selasi

"We did what we knew. It was what we knew. Leaving.... We were immigrants. Immigrants leave." Ghana must go is a beautifully, almost flawlessly written novel by author  Taiye Selasi , born in London, raised in Boston, living in New York, New Delhi, Rome - WOW! That is impressing. I saw pictures of her and she is drop-dead-beautiful too. Like the parents in the book, her parents are from Nigeria and from Ghana, immigrants. Like the four siblings in the book, she was raised in Boston. I read a review which stated, it might be, could be, slightly autobiographical, she being the twinsister Taiwo in the story. I don't know if it is necessary to always try to discover, what is autobiographical about a book one reads and if at all it is the right of the reader to know. Either way an author shows a lot about herself, writing such a deep and moving novel. I missed her public reading in Berlin, which I deeply regret. I think, to see this woman and hear her read must be quite an

A suitcase for my books

Now I am finally actually, oh god, I am so relieved to get out of here, packing, for my vacation. And since I've read a lot and since some of the books I meant to pack and mentioned in my earlier fantasy list   written for the case, time might ever actually pass and have me hop a plane to Mallorca, are read by now, this is the list of books, I am now really taking with me: Chögyam Trungpa  Shambala, The sacred path of the warrior   Taiye Selasi  Ghana must go David Wagner  Leben A.L. Kennedy  Das blaue Buch  (The Blue Book) Paula McLain  The Paris Wife Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie  Purple Hibiscus Cees Nooteboom  Allerseelen Fred Vargas  Der untröstliche Witwer von Montparnasse That does not look like much, but hey, its about 2300 pages to read and considering that I will not read more than say: average a 100 pages every day, I will not even finish them. I am only gone for two weeks, 14 days, approximately 1400 pages (sometimes I manage to top myself and read 200 pages, b

there is a story

there is a story ahead of us to be fulfilled string of pearls leading to a conclusion already planted into our bones when we first met probably before that before we were born of course we knew nothing then I barely know anything now how not to behave I know how not to behave good girl can not help it under water the truth becomes clear a crystal never turn away from your destiny there is a story ahead of us barely existing which already shapes us we don’t know it but we will go there attaching to it gradually and it will become our life path which already shaped us before we were born © Susanne Becker
