My favourite books on buddhism, personal growth and spirituality

I said I would publish lists now, and I keep my promises usually. Here comes a list of books that did not exactly change my life (though a bit they all did) but helped me shape my perspective on life and myself immensely over the past twenty years. Each of those books put a major impact into my life. and funny enough each of those books came to me by chance, by coincidence and each time it felt like stumbling over something meaningful, the universe presented to me to make me learn something, to wake me up really to what was possible for me, how much more depth and choices I was allowed to look for. Suzuki Roshi  Zen Mind Beginners Mind  I mentioned this before. It was the first book I ever read about  buddhism and after this I was basically hooked. The minute I started reading it I also started to meditate on my friends sofa. It opened for me, a girl coming from the catholic german narrowminded smalltown world, a whole different world of how I could be. It opened a road and I am s

Retracing Happiness

I try to retrace happiness - the smell in my aunts stable the smell of the cows my favourite was red and named Mia I used to spend the summers there as a girl driving the tractor over the fields running across the meadows free and wild feeding the little pigs the calves rubbing their noses against me I don’t remember much happiness but never thought I was not happy I just didn’t know how happiness felt and took what I had for it. I try to retrace happiness - the cool water and the hot sun on my skin when I went swimming with another aunt she threw me into the water we sun bathed side by side on a blanket I told her stories and looked at her painted toenails she taught me how to swim I ate French fries at the pool with her before she had children of her own she took me and I wanted her to be my mom I don’t remember much happiness but never thought I was not happy I just didn’t know how happiness felt and took what I had for i

Zora Neale Hurston

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer.” Zora Neale Hurston , great writer of the american south, born in Alabama on January 7th, 1891 "Their Eyes were watching God" is a fantastic book - I am sure all her other books are wonderful as well. I got this one book from a friend, also born in Alabama, and I loved it. It showed me a world, utterly strange and unknown for a young and pretty immature woman from Germany. I am sure all her other books are wonderful as well and with this short post I want to encourage you all to go out and get one and read it. It is worth it!!! And this is what Garison Keilors Writer's Almanac wrote about her today: "It's the birthday of novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, born in Notasulga, Alabama (1891). She grew up in Eatonville, Florida, America's first incorporated all-black town. Much of Hurston's writing is set there, and many of her characters are based on the resid

One year after my death

One year after my death I will still be sitting on my cloud (my cloud has my name on it with a neon sign, that’s how I know, arriving in heaven, that it is my personal cloud) looking down to that place I came from, and I will be missing everything. Most of all I will be missing my girls and I really do not want to go into this because I am not even sick or something, I will not die soon, probably, but I still could cry my eyes out thinking about how much I will miss them. I can get worked up right here and now about this! Thinking about how much I will still miss them one year after my death – the thought alone is killing me. This is ridiculous. One year after my death I will miss all the times I laughed and could still laugh, if still alive. I wonder: do dead people laugh at all? I mean this hysterical laughing, this pee in your pants laughing I share with my girlfriends and with my colleagues at the office? One year after my death I wil
